Liam Martley is a producer and live sound technician studying Music Technology with a minor in Computer Science. Hailing from humble Mystic, Connecticut, Liam’s first introductions to music came from singing in his middle school chorus program. After separating himself from music for a while, he found a renewed interest through the beginning of his good friend’s music career. Inspired by the passion and drive of his friends, he began writing songs before shifting his focus towards making beats. At Northeastern University, Liam began studying cybersecurity before he realized that he didn’t like coding. After careful consideration, he decided to change majors on the basis of his interest in producing. However, his experience in the Music Technology program led him down a number of different paths, eventually landing him in the live sound industry. Liam currently works as a PA technician, setting up speakers for the industry’s biggest names including Boygenius, Steve Lacy, Clairo, and Shania Twain. His experience doing tour audio has largely inspired his interest in acoustics and sound reproduction. However, he is still very invested in making music.
Spatializing Stereo: A Framework for Creative Upmixing
"Dialogues with Water is a site-specific installation of soundscapes and sound acousmatic works by a group of Northeastern University music students guided by Prof. Hubert Ho. The soundscapes are heard as part of the exhibition WATERLINES at the Somerville Museum, Winter 2022-23.
From inviting us to follow the journey of underground water rise to the surface, to letting us meditate near calm waters, and thrusting us into a storm, these aesthetically eclectic pieces respond to the exhibit in myriad ways.
At times, the sonic landscapes meld naturally with the artworks; at others, the sounds work in counterpoint with them, prompting full immersion and deep reflection on our complicated relationship with water.
These 12 tracks were composed as part of a creative project in MUSC 2350, an Acoustics class at Northeastern University, supervised by Prof. Hubert Ho."

"When you’re paying for a concert you want to make sure you can hear no matter where you're sitting. That’s where audio techs come in."
